Bookstore Romance Weekend – August 18-20!

It’s that time of year – when bookstores celebrate Romance and authors gather to sign their books and chat with readers and generally have fun! Some have panel discussions and parties, too. I’m joining other authors at Cupboard Maker Books in Enola PA this year – on Saturday, August 19th and I hope you can stop in to see me!

Here’s the schedule for the whole weekend’s events:

If you’re a Historical Romance fan, then Saturday from Noon until 2 is the perfect time for you! I’m excited that NJ author Anabelle Bryant is making her first visit to Cupboard Maker Books and I’ll be signing along with her.

For more info about the event or the authors, please stop by Cupboard Maker Books on FB. See you there!

Christmas in July – Really!

I’ve celebrated Christmas in July a number of times and in different ways through my life.

One of my favorites was in Wildwood NJ when we rented a house for a week in July. Most/all of the residents/owners had lived in a neighborhood/area in South Philly and had retired/moved down the shore, so they decided to celebrate Christmas together in the summer. And it was a huge block party with food (mostly Italian!), music, games for young and old and Santa arrived on the firetruck, too. So much fun and it was great that they included visitors and friends – making us part of their families.

It’s been years since my family did that but I’m not above looking for ways to celebrate and this year, I’m doing it with. . . BOOKS! (I told you all it was BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS week!). As the holiday weekend continues and the summer kicks into gear, you might be looking for some books to read on the beach or at the pool or while traveling? Well, it just so happens, here’s a way to win some – and an ereader, too! Just sign up for this Christmas in July Booksweeps for your chance!

And Happy Christmas in July! (Giveaway ends July 12 so enter soon!)

Have You Seen The New Covers?

My publisher, Oliver Heber Books, has refreshed the covers of both my MacKendimen Clan series and my Warriors of the Stone Circles series – I think the new covers are spectacular – but what do you think?

Warriors of the Stone Circles – new covers!!
MacKendimen Clan – new covers!

I think these covers really bring in the fantasy elements of the Warriors of The Stone Circle stories – the series is based on ancient Celtic mythology and the final book – SEARING MOON – with apologies to all the readers who I left at the end of the world as we know it at the end of BLAZING EARTH — will be released in 2024!!

(AND, there’s a DRAGON!!!!!!!)

The MacKendimen Clan series is a mix of historical romances and time travel romances, all with a touch of something ‘extra’ (aka ‘magical’)!

A LOVE THROUGH TIME is a time travel to medieval Scotland and both the hero and heroine travel back (and forth) in time. ONCE FORBIDDEN follows with the story of the repercussions of Alex and Maggie’s visit on the village and people of Dunnedin. A HIGHLANDER’S HOPE continues with a Christmas/holiday themed story about a villager and a visitor. And A MATTER OF TIME is about a man conceived in the past who travels back to find his destiny!

New cover or old, I hope you give these a try! Best of all – RISING FIRE is now free across all vendors!

2022 Christmas* Cookie** Hop! Join us!

I’m participating in historical author Heather McCollum’s annual Christmas (* and any other winter holidays) Cookie (**and other sweet treats) Hop this year — and it begins. . . TODAY!!

It will be a fun way to collect holiday recipes, learn about authors, find giveaways and prizes and be entered to win a $150 gift card, too. To enter, you follow the list of participating authors to their listed locations and. . . read, follow, copy recipes, click, or whatever they ask all the while collecting the names of the treats they share. Simple really.

So – what recipe am I offering?

My favorite scent after vanilla is CINNAMON – and the aroma of cinnamon baking is just so enticing. And that doesn’t even mention the taste.

Cinnamon is an ancient spice. In past centuries, it was reserved for royalty and the wealthy because of its cost. Its use is mentioned in Egypt as far back as 2000 BCE and most Western Europeans believed that was its source. But it actually was grown and cultivated in Sri Lanka and southeastern Asia for centuries. It reached Europe and England when people traveled back from the Middle East. Cinnamon has also been used as an herbal medicine for centuries. But me? I love the fabulous flavor in one of my favorite Christmastime recipes — Pull-apart Cinnamon Loaf (and Cake)!

On Christmas morning, I usually host a family brunch – my family loves my sausage gravy over biscuits with eggs which take some time to make. So, just before making that, I put a loaf or cake pan with this recipe in my oven to bake – it fills the house with the most mouthwatering scent and it’s a lovely addition to the menu. Mmmmmm!

Pull-apart Cinnamon Loaf

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup margarine or butter,
  • melted
  • (12-oz.) can of 10 refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (any kind with ‘layers’ works best)

Directions:
Heat oven to 400°F. Generously grease 8×4-inch loaf pan (do not use dark-coated pan). In small shallow bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon; mix well.
1. Separate dough into 10 biscuits; cut each into quarters. Dip each quarter into melted margarine; roll in sugar-cinnamon mixture. Fill greased loaf pan with the pieces – do not pack them down.
2. Bake at 400°F. for 19 to 27 minutes. Cool 2 minutes. Loosen edges; remove from pan. Place on serving plate. Serve warm.

Mmmmmmm! They are most delicious when eaten warm but be careful – they can be like molten lava when they first come out!

Variations:

For a larger group – make it cake-sized! And just a little differently, too.

Pull Apart Cinnamon Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cans (16.3 oz each) LARGE Homestyle refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted

Directions:

Heat oven to 325°F. Lightly grease 12-cup fluted tube or Bundt-style cake pan.

  1. In large plastic food-storage bag, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon.
Separate dough into a total of 16 biscuits; cut each into quarters.
Shake in bag to coat. Arrange in pan – do not pack down. Mix brown sugar and butter; pour
    over biscuit pieces.
  2. Bake 47 to 52 minutes or until golden brown and no longer doughy in
    center. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Turn upside down onto serving plate;
pull apart to serve. Serve warm.

No matter which you make, it’s a lovely, sweet treat to share!

Now – hop on to the next author and their sweet holiday treat – Hop Here!

Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Kwanzaa!

While you’re here, I hope you’ll sign up for my newsletter and take a look around!
